George Carlin
The most current of current events this morning is the unfortunate death of author, actor and comedian George Carlin. To celebrate an exulted and long-spanning career here are five things about George Carlin you may not have known. I learned most of them this morning myself, reading over various tribute article to George. Here goes:
-George Carlin hosted the first-ever broadcast of Saturday Night Live
(source http://www.cnn.com)
-He played the character of Mr. Conductor on the PBS series “Shining Time Station”
(source http://www.cnn.com)
-A legal battle about the airing of one of his more provocative comedy bits “Seven Words You Can Never Say on TV” was fought all the way up to the Supreme Court. The Court, by the way, found in favor of the plaintiff. (http://www.msnbc.com)
-George Carlin grew up in Manhattan, dropped out of school after ninth grade and enrolled in the Air Force for a short time. (http://www.msnbc.com)
-George Carlin was a winner in the contest for the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor (http://www.boston.com the Boston Globe website)
So today take a minute to review his webpage http://www.georgecarlin.com , to look up some of his funnier bits on youtube and just to generally remember this obtrusive, endearing comedian for the great American symbol of cynicism he represented.

I did know that! Believe it or not, I used to watch Shining Time Station with my kids and was very surprised to see him play the conductor. Like everything he did, he did it well. I think my favorite memory/comedy skit would be “Airlines”. Look that one up and thank you for sharing
